With a new year comes new hopes and dreams. Like I shared in my 2013 reflection post, I think it’s important for us to realize that it is up to us to make our dreams come true. Simply wishing on a star just isn’t enough. This year I am making it a point to work hard for what I want and make it happen no matter what. If you are subscribed to my monthly newsletter, then you already got a sneak peek of my goals list. I decided to make ten goals for 2014. The following are at the top of my list this year:
1. Travel outside of the U.S.
I have never been outside of the country, but I have wanted to go for as long as I can remember. The ONLY thing holding me back is money, so I am going to work hard to save enough to buy a ticket and roam for a week or two. Any travel suggestions are welcome!
2. Make $X from blogging
As my main source of income, I need to make a goal for a set dollar amount I want to earn this year from Lush to Blush. This will also help me with goal #1!
3. Become fluent in Spanish
I have taken Spanish classes for six years, my mom is a Spanish teacher and I’m half Puerto Rican/ Nicaraguan. I really have NO excuse not to be fluent.
4. Get 10,000 followers on Instagram
I have been slowly growing my following for the past few months and I really want to get up to the 5 digit mark. Having a sizable social following helps with sponsorships and getting more blog readers, so it is something that’s very important to me!
5. Share my writing on more blogs/online magazines
This means guest posting, submitting, and contributing like crazy to get my work and my blog out there. I think I’m already off to a great start with Nellie Magazine!
6. Score at least one more consistent freelance gig
Freelancing is so inconsistent. You could be ballin’ one month and then broke the next. For now, I can count on my income from Groupon City Guide since I’m under contract with them, but adding just one more weekly or monthly gig to my schedule would be super helpful.
7. Write a book
I have this amazing idea for a book that I am really excited about. It is going to take a lot of work, but I really want to make it happen this year. I don’t know the first thing about publishing, but I will just have to cross that bridge when I get to it! One step at a time…
8. Attend a blogging event
Last year, I went to IFBcon and met some really fabulous people. I learned so much in two short days and it was an overall wonderful experience. I hope I have the opportunity to attend another blogging event this year, even if it’s not one of the major conferences.
9. Share more of my blogging secrets
I have only been blogging for under two years, but I have learned an incredible amount in that time. I wish I had someone to guide me when I was first starting, so I hope I can do that for someone else. I started offering blog consulting services, but I’d like to figure out other ways to help build up other bloggers. We’re all in this together, after all! 🙂
10. Volunteer/Donate more
I always donate something at least once/month–even if it’s just $5–but this year, I’d like to donate more of my time. Since I work from home, my schedule is more flexible than it used to be; I should take advantage of that and do some good.
Wow, looking back on this list makes me super excited for the new year. I’m looking forward to it, even if I am a little bit scared!
What are your goals for 2014? I’d love it if you shared them in the comments!

These are some really great goals! If you’re working on becoming fluent in Spanish, your travel destination should be somewhere Spanish-speaking so you can fully experience their culture!

Thanks for the tip! That is a really great idea. I always say that the first place I want to go is Spain so I can at least kind of communicate!

Love this! I created a vision board that I look at every day. It contains my goals for the 2014 year. Ha! Believe it or not, I tried writing a book a few years back…I got pretty far, but unfortunately work always gets in the way. I’m sure you’ll accomplish all of these!
Megan
January 6, 2014 @ 12:23 pm
A vision board is such a great idea! I’m going to try that. My book idea isn’t really text-based, so I think I can do it! I wrote a 50 page book back in college for one of my classes. I really enjoyed it so much! Happy new year to you too and I know you will accomplish your goals as well! xo

I want to step up my international travel (Europe and Australia are on the list) and to become debt free – no debt = freedooooooom (in my Dave Ramsey voice)!
Megan
January 6, 2014 @ 12:26 pm
Haha, I’d love to be debt free too! Unfortunately, I have way too many student loans to make that possible right now. Oh well, at least I have my education, right?… :-/

These are wonderful goals! I hope to attend a conference and make money from blogging this year as well!
Also, for traveling, I highly recommend looking into Costa Rica! That’s where I learned Spanish! It’s an amazingly beautiful country and also very affordable for travel!

Thanks for the advice! My best friend went in high school and still talks about it almost ten years later. I’ve heard some really great things. I’ll definitely look into it!

My main goal of 2014 is to make this year a lot better than last year. I know that sounds a bit vague, but I was able to travel, meet new people, and had fun overall. This year I want to grow my blog, strengthen my relationships, and -like you-be fluent in Spanish (as start on Korean again). Also trying to get money from blogging is a big to do this year!
Megan
January 6, 2014 @ 1:18 pm
Those are great goals! I actually know some Korean too and I’d love to learn more. Good luck with everything and I wish you all the best in 2014! 🙂

I love to set goals each year. I have quite a few blogging goals which mostly consist of consistent posting and growing my follower count and reaching out to more blogs, writing more guest posts, doing more sponsored post, and more. I just want to make my blog a better one in 2014. All your goals are really great ones to have and I am excited to see where this year takes you.
HCBN love,

Love these goals! I definitely want to grow my Instagram/Twitter followers this year – so many more opportunities come your way if you have the right numbers.
Megan
January 6, 2014 @ 1:55 pm
Exactly! Instagram is my lowest out of the top 3 networks right now (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), so that’s why I’m putting the focus there. Plus it’s my favorite! 🙂 Good luck!

I adore England and Ireland, and I’m hoping to study abroad there in the next year or so. I just love your blog, and that photo at the beginning of the post is astounding. Thanks for sharing!

These are great, very detailed, which is what they say you should do! Writing a book is so ambitious, I have started mine a few times but I get sidetracked with so many other things! This year, I am vowing to be more centered:) Happy New year!

Like everyone else said, these are such fantastic goals for 2014!
I just found your blog, and I really love it, so I’m following. Insta too!
As a relatively new blogger (under a year, but getting increasingly dedicated), I’m always curious to learn how you increase followers on the blog and social media. I haven’t yet worked with any brands or companies to even make a cent, but this is all really intriguing to me.
Here’s to hoping for 2014! 🙂

What continent are you wanting to travel to? So far my goals are to ski mostly red runs, do yoga 3x a week, and read a book a quarter (doesn’t seem like a lot but will be for me).
Megan
January 7, 2014 @ 10:22 am
I love those goals! I am trying to do more yoga too and I think a book a quarter will be great! I’d be happy going to any continent, really. I just want to see the world and experience a new culture!! Happy New Year 🙂

Megan, thanks for stopping by my blog earlier this week. It’s really good to see your lovely blog. I like the layout & your writing style. And having a goal on becoming better in spanish is def one of my goals as well. I do speak it quite well, but i don’t practise it that often, so i guess i need more spanish speaking friends. 🙂 And def buy some spanish books as well in 2014. Hey that’s a great goal. What do you think?! 🙂 xo
Megan
January 21, 2014 @ 2:19 pm
Thanks so much for the compliments! Practice is so important, even my grandmother who is from Puerto Rico doesn’t speak spanish as well as she used to and it’s her native language! Buying spanish books is a great idea! Maybe I’ll watch some spanish tv shows too 🙂 Thanks for stopping by! xo
