Everywhere I go, I seem to notice a new girl trying out red lipstick. The runways are covered with bold colored lips and as I get older, I see more and more people wearing the trend in real life.

I’m not your typical red-lipstick-wearing kind of girl; I’ve never tried the trend. So when I started this blog, I decided it was the perfect look to try and write about. I went straight to my local beauty store to get the brightest red lipstick I could find. I was so excited that I put the lipstick on as soon as I got to the car. I instantly felt a wave of confidence come over me.

I tried the look with several different outfits and styles—it worked every time. I started with a boho chic look. Then I moved on to a polished, serious vibe. My red lips even worked with a casual dress I wore to run errands. I honestly can’t get enough of this chic look. Red lipstick is the ultimate accessory. If you feel like your outfit is a little dull, but you don’t have the right jewelry, just apply some red lipstick and you’re ready to go!

There are some downsides, though. One is the obvious smudge. It can be hard to keep the lipstick perfectly on your lips. I found that a naturally colored lip liner helped. Then I put a little concealer around my lip line and the smudges were better controlled. Another problem I had was drinking from my water bottle and kissing my friends hello. The deep red color always came off! To avoid this, get a lipstain. You can see Sephora’s top picks here or try COVERGIRL Outlast All-Day Lipcolor in Ever Red-dy 507 or Red Affair 572 ($9.99). Revlon’s Just Bitten Lip Stain & Balm in Gothic ($8.99) is another great choice. Both are available at drugstores across the country.

Another problem is how my boyfriend feels about the look. He told me when he sees a girl wearing red lipstick, he just thinks she is trying too hard. And of course he hates getting that “grandma just kissed me” lip-shaped stain on him. This look seems to be a more girl-attractive trend than a sex-vibe amplifier, but it is always nice to switch up your look!

When I have on red lipstick, I instantly feel more put together. I don’t usually like to go places with a bare face, but with a red lip, the attention is focused on your plumper-looking lips instead of on your flaws. So don’t be afraid to try this bold look. Be confident and be beautiful! Just please make sure to tone down use of your other beauty products!

Would you wear red lipstick or is it just too much?
