Thick, strong eyebrows have been a staple throughout fashion week and trendsetters everywhere have followed suit. So put down the wax, grab an eye pencil, and enhance your natural beauty!
Bold brows first appeared as a top trend last summer and the look doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon. When wearing bold brows, there are a few pointers to consider:
1. Continue to tweeze stray hairs. Although you don’t want your brows to be thinner than they naturally are, you don’t have to go all cavewoman. There will always be strays that need to be removed.
2. Purchase a brow pencil. If you have sparse brows, use a pencil to fill the voids—just make sure not to overdo it and do not line the area above or below your brows; you shouldn’t be able to tell that anything was used unless examined very closely. Choose a color that is close to your hair color. If you have light hair, pick a deep blonde or light brown pencil, but if you have dark hair, stick to dark brown (not black).
L2B tip: use an angled brush to smooth out the sharp lines of the pencil.
3. Seal in the look with a brow gel. Bold brows are cute, but wild, unruly ones? Not so much. Control the chaos with Anastasia Brow Gel, $21 at Sephora.
4. Let your brows be the star. When wearing makeup, you should always let one feature stand out while you turn down the volume on the others. The same is true when boasting bold brows. Pair your new feature with a pinch of blush or bronzer and a nude or vaguely colored lip and steer clear of black, smoky eyes. If you must use some color, try deep red on your lips. The main goal is not to draw away too much attention from your brows.
Now you’re ready to hit the town with your new look! And remember, as with any beauty trend, make sure to tailor the look to you and find that perfect medium.
Fun Fact: According to a study done at MIT, eyebrows play a larger role in face recognition than eyes do. Crazy, huh?
