home office essentials, blog talk, blogging, desk styling tips

While this is a Blog Talk post, this list applies to anyone who works from home. Whether you’re a writer, web designer, photographer or entrepreneur, these things will come in handy for any home office. These are my absolute essentials that I don’t know what I’d do without!

1. Reliableย Internet
When it comes to working from home, nothing is more important than a reliable internet connection. I wouldn’t be able to do anything without my internet. I personally have Xfinity and have been a loyal customer for as long as I can remember. The speed is always fast and the outages are rare. A couple months ago, there was an outage due to maintenance work and I started freaking out. Until I remembered that as an Xfinity customer, I have free access to all their public hotspots, which are pretty much everywhere in Atlanta. In fact, there’s one within range from my home. All I had to to was log in to the “Xfinity” wifi channelย and when prompted, log in to my online Xfinity account. That was it. This also comes in super handy when traveling!

2. Candles + Flowers
As a blogger/entrepreneur/web designer, being stressed 24/7 is basically the norm, so anything (and I mean anything) that can relax me is more than welcome in my home office. In fact, it’s pretty essential if I want to be around anyone and not be a complete bitch. Candles in soothing scents like lavender and pine really make me feel at ease. Pretty flowers have the same effect on me, plus they are great photo props. I make it a point to always have pretty flowers on my desk. I always feel so much more productive when I do too, so there has to be some truth to it!

3. Whitney English Day Designer
The Day Designer is the holy grail of planners – I think it’s a pretty well known fact in the creative world. I really don’t know what I would do without this thing. It helps me organize my life and keep things in order. I use it to schedule meetings, blog posts and more. If you’re on the fence about whether you need it or not, trust me. You need it.

4. Mac Computer
I remember when I was in high school and college, I was totally a PC girl–mainly because my parents were not down to shell out over a grand for a laptop–but now there’s no way I could go back. Macs are just so much more powerful and seriously last forevs. I’ve had my current laptop since 2011 and it is still going strong. I find Macs much more user friendly. Plus being able to sync everything between my phone, laptop and desktopย is a total lifesaver.
