Having a pretty coffee table is one of the most important things in my decor. It’s what I’m always looking at when I’m sitting on my couch, whether I’m reading, watching tv, or hanging with friends. When decorating the centerpiece of my living room, I have one rule: keep it simple.

The first thing I always make sure to have on my coffee table is a magazine and/or book. Not only does it make for pretty decor, but it also provides entertainment for guests. Next is one of my favorite things in the world: candles. Candles are so great for creating warm, welcoming light. Plus they provide a wonderful aroma, and what better place to keep them than the center of a home?

If you can’t tell already, I love it when my decor items are also functional, which brings me to my next two coffee table faves: a tray and a trinket box. Trays are great to serve guests, but they also make clearing the coffee table that much quicker and easier. The trinket box adds some pretty dimension and also stores little miscellaneous items that might not be so pretty. In my trinket box, I have nail polish, candy and chapstick. If you have one big enough, it’s also a great place to keep your remotes!

Finally, my favorite coffee table must is fresh flowers. Flowers are my absolute favorite way to bring life to a home. They’re beautiful and since they don’t last forever, I like to mix it up according to my mood (and the season, of course). A great go-to is pink roses, but I also love sunflowers, eucalyptus and the super-fragrant hyacinths. I change out the items on my coffee table from time to time, but I always keep it simple and I always stick to these same guidelines. I’d love to know what’s on your coffee table!
