crimson

Taking a look back at the major trends for Fall/Winter 2012, one color really stands out to me: burgundy, or as I prefer to call it, garnet (GO NOLES!). This deep, rich shade of red was seen all over the runways and in both the fashion and beauty looks of the season. The color gives a certain warmth to the usual basics of black and grey that are so often seen in the fall and winter months.

Besides it’s aesthetic beauty and regal notes, the color can be worn with many different items that may already be in one’s current wardrobe. As a rule of thumb, it is always important to keep several neutral items in your closet, but what’s nice is that burgundy can be worn with both the cool neutrals (i.e. black, white, grey) and the warm neutrals (i.e. brown, ivory, tan).

The deeper shade of red is a nice update from the bright red that was seen in previous seasons. This goes for denim and other pants as well as lips.

Fall/Winter 2012 has revealed a darker side of beauty. While skin tends to be paler in these months, pigments have gotten stronger and deeper, particularly on the lips. *L2B tip: this lip shade comes in handy when drinking red wine; it disguises any stains your lips may get.

What do you think about this popular color? Will you be sporting burgundy skinnies? How about burgundy lips?
