Learning how to do our makeup is a long process. I have evolved my techniques over the years and just recently took advantage of contouring and highlighting my face. Wow, do I see a difference! Contouring and highlighting in the right spots can totally change the appearance of face shape and bone structure. The real trick is in the blending, though. You don’t want to come off as if your 5 year old niece did your makeup.
I start with a BB cream base (Boscia is what I use). Then, after it has dried, I put highlighter on the tops of my cheekbones and down towards my nose, then one swipe down the slope of my nose. At first, it might look strange, but do not be alarmed! Next, I apply Bare Minerals all over my face and blend it down to my neck. Now it is time for blush. I only apply my blush on the apples of my cheek and a little below. A good trick is to put 2 fingers beside your nose as you are applying. That way, you don’t have to worry about getting the blush too close to your nose.
Finally, I apply my bronzer along the area below my cheekbones to create the appearance of dimension. Follow up with applying bronzer along the jawline and then in the shape of a 3 (from forehead, to cheek, to chin) along each side of the face. Blend it all together so there are no clear lines of color separation on the face.
And that’s it! I have to admit, applying makeup is so much more fun now that I have my method. Check out this video that really helped me a lot:

Do you have your own method of contouring? What do you do to add structure to your look?
