One of the main reasons I love fall fashion so much is because of the layering (and the boots, of course). Layering makes mixing prints and fabrics so much easier; it really makes an outfit interesting and allows for more fun and creativity with shopping and styling. It’s also perfect for the unpredictable weather. You know, freezing in the morning and hot and sunny in the afternoon. With layers, you can take away or add on as needed.

Outerwear is something I never appreciated as much as I should have in the past. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always loved a good moto jacket and the occasional faux fur coat; but living in Florida didn’t allow for such items. Now that I’m in the frigid, arctic temperatures of Georgia (ok, maybe it’s not THAT cold…), I get to have a lot more fun with layers and outerwear.

Here are some of my favorite layering combos:

Retro: A long sleeve romper with a faux fur vest. This look is best completed with a felt hat and long, bouncing waves. Take off the vest and you’ve got a fun romper look, but add the vest and you’ve got an Almost Famous 70s vibe.

Refined: A floral (or other print) collared blouse under a solid sweater (with cutouts!). This is a great way to incorporate prints in an understated way. It’s also ideal for getting some use out of your spring staples, like the floral print used here. If it’s really cold where you are, throw on a blazer for added warmth.

Rebel: A graphic tee, leather jacket and camo parka. This combination is a bit edgy, but right on trend. The triple layers will definitely keep you warm and allow for more transitions. Plus, all three pieces are must-haves on their own.

Do you love layering in the fall and winter? What is your favorite combination?
