Glamorous Spaces at Home

Our home should be our haven, that place we can let go of all outside worries and just relax. It should also reflect our personalities and style , but that’s something I’ve found to be a little tricky when living with a man. I officially moved in with my boyfriend about eight months ago and since then, it has been a constant battle to find that compromise of masculine vs feminine. Luckily, as a creative photographer, Johnny has much more of an appreciation for beautiful things than your average guy, so we’ve been able to find a happy medium in our living room space that we both love.
But when it came to our bedroom, nothing had changed besides my addition of a white desk and my full length mirror (which I would sit in front of–on the ground–to do my makeup). I’ve wanted a designated “battle station” to do my makeup for a long time. Attempts in my previous homes were always…less than successful due to the small space I always seem to be working with. But luckily, I recently came across a fabulous piece at American Signature Furniture (also known as Value City Furniture) that I just had to have.
A couple months ago, I was shopping for a new coffee table when I came across a gorgeous mirrored piece that featured gold edges. It was beautiful! But of course, that one was very quickly vetoed by Johnny, so we went with another coffee table that ended up being perfect for us. But I still couldn’t get that beauty out of my mind. And then when I was searching for a makeup counter, it hit me: the long, slender console table that matched the mirrored coffee table would be perfect! I checked the site again and found the stunning piece. I ordered it immediately.
I couldn’t be happier with how it looks in person. Every morning when I sit there to do my makeup, it’s the perfect glamorous start to my day. I love having a more organized and defined space for my beauty products, which I have way too much of. Before, I was just sitting on the floor and now, I feel so much happier having my pretty little beauty counter.
Another space I added some glamour to is in the corner between the bed and the door to the bathroom. We weren’t using the space for anything (besides maybe a pile of dirty clothes from time to time – ew!) so I thought it’d be nice to create a little seating area – a reading nook if you will. When Johnny and I are hanging out in our room, the only place to really sit together is the bed, which isn’t doing any amazing things for our backs, so Johnny was all in when I suggested a seating area. Instead of your typical chair, we wanted something unique and preferably something that could also provide some storage space.
We found the perfect solution in an extra large oversized ottoman. The tufted feature combined with the rugged appearance of the fabric is something both Johnny and I love. I added some throw pillows for some extra pop of color and a cute tray for decor. We’re using the extra storage space for blankets. It’s perfect easy access now that it’s getting colder. During the day, Johnny loves sitting over there with his laptop and at night, we throw all our “extra” (according to Johnny. I mean, we totally need 8 pillows on our bed.) pillows on the ottoman while we sleep. It’s great because the space wasn’t being used for anything at all before, but now we’re able to have more living area in our home, just by adding a simple ottoman. And I have a feeling this piece will get repurposed from home to home throughout the years – it’s just so versatile!
I had so much fun adding a little glamour to the everyday by revamping my decor.
How do you add glamour to your home?

Your home looks incredibly beautiful! The console table is also stunning. We have had the same situation with the decoration. On the other hand it is nice to have boyfriend’s opinion about the interior 🙂

We just bought our first home in August and ti has been a lot of fun and a big challenge getting it the way we both want it. The best part is the massive master suite. Our bathroom is a wrap around so it is like having my own bathroom really. I have been able to use golds, mercury glass, oxidized mirrors and some really fantastic foil prints to make it glamorous and feminine. I still need a great little vanity seat and I need to organize my makeup in the drawers so I can sit there in the morning and do my makeup. It has been a really fun little project for me. I pretty much stole the whole look from a write up in some magazine but who cares right?

Hey, that’s what those magazines are for, right?! 😉 Your bathroom sounds beautiful and congrats on your new home! I really want to buy a home and renovate soon. I watch HGTV way too much and think I can take it on haha!

Thank you! I am just finally getting to the age where I’m putting more and more effort into my home space. I would rather buy home decor items than clothes sometimes!

I love all of these little details! I really like adding silver trays for makeup, candles, jewelry, etc. I also have a silver vase with hot pink fake flowers in it that really brightens up the room too! Throw pillows are also my favorite way to add some style, as well as little coffee table books too!

Silver trays are the best! I got this one at The Dollar Tree. They have all different shapes there – such a great deal! Throw pillows are awesome! But I think I’m too picky when it comes to them. I rarely find ones I like!

That ottoman is gorgous and looks so comfortable! I’ve been wanting a piece like that (with extra storage) for my bedroom for ages, but I recently moved into a tiny flat and can barely squeeze my bed and the most basic pieces of furniture into the bedroom. The ottoman will have to wait until my next (bigger) flat. Btw, those mini pumpkins are so pretty…

Thank you!! Yes, this was the perfect piece & to tell you the truth, I originally planned for it to go somewhere else, but it worked out so perfectly as a nice little seating area! 🙂

I love this piece on your home decor! Your vanity is beautiful, and the ottoman is perfect for that corner. It has inspired me to try to do something more feminine to my bedroom. Thanks for the inspiring post, and can’t wait to see your new stuff in person when I come to visit!!

This is really neat, and I am impressed that you and your man can find a way to meet both of your needs. Once you have kids that will diminish even more. The idea of a space that is all mine, that makes me smile, and that I can relax (and even be alone for 5 minutes) is just not even possible. I will live vicariously though you for now 🙂
