A couple weeks ago, my best friend Danasia invited me to join her for a weekend in Guadeloupe. It was my first time hearing of the Caribbean Island, so I had no idea what I was in for. But of course I said yes and two days later, we were on the inaugural AirFrance flight from ATL to PTP.
I’ve been to the Caribbean before–years ago I went to the Bahamas, and a few months ago I went to Cuba–but I’ve never been to the French Caribbean before. And Guadeloupe is certainly French. Only about 5% of their tourists are from the United States. In fact, 90% are from France. The native language there is French, so there’s really no need for anyone to learn English. It was hard to get used to, but I had some practice when I was in Paris earlier this year.
Anyway, we stayed at La CrΓ©ole Beach Hotel & Spa in Gosier. It was wonderful! So so stunning and we had everything we needed right there. One of the activities the tourism board set up for us was a cooking class on the property next to the water. It was so cool to learn how to cool with these super tasty spices. After the cooking class, we went to the market and shopped for those same spices (and maybe some rum….).
After shopping in town, we spent the afternoon lazing by the pool and hanging out at the beach. It was incredible.
I can’t wait to do it all again this weekend in Turks & Caicos! Be sure to follow along on Instagram stories for all the fun!
