My hair is one of my favorite features, so I do everything I can to protect and nourish it. This hasn’t always been the case though. Throughout high school and college, I suppressed my natural curls using harsh products and unhealthy heat tools (like literally an iron some days. Facepalm.). But nowadays, I am extremely careful with what I use and how often I use it. I’m a big fan of switching up shampoo and conditioner products after each bottle, and my newest line is Pantene Charcoal Collection. Yep, it contains activated charcoal!
After some research, I found that charcoal works to detox hair by attracting impurities (like a magnet) while releasing antioxidants. Some benefits include longer-lasting body and shine, as well as reduced oiliness. I mean, what’s not great about all of that, right? Definitely worth a shot. I have already trained my hair to not get oily until the end of day 3, so that’s not an issue for me. But if I can get it to last even longer, I’m in. I started using the new Pantene Charcoal Collection a couple weeks ago.
First of all, I love that the bottles have a pump dispenser. It’s so much easier to get the right amount of product. Seriously, every beauty product should have a pump dispenser. Anyway, the first thing I noticed was the scent. It’s pretty mild, but very clean and natural smelling. Both the shampoo and conditioner are made without silicone, parabens and dyes, so it makes sense that it would have a fresh, natural scent. I can’t put my finger on it, but it definitely reminds me of something. There’s maybe a faint earthy/fresh carrot scent to it? The Pantene Charcoal Shampoo is clear with little tiny black dots. I would assume that’s the charcoal, which is pretty cool! The conditioner is thick and white, like most conditioners. Pantene’s Charcoal Conditioner actually has white charcoal in it so again, no dyes!
After using the products, I blow dried and styled my hair as usual. I took these photos on day 1, but look at that shine! It’s not a drastic difference, but I don’t think there’s any denying that the results are fab, if I do say so myself! Where I really noticed the major change was two days later. I was able to go an extra day without washing my hair! Full disclosure, I did use dry shampoo, but not until the last day, and I usually do that anyway. By my third time using it, I definitely noticed an increase of the longevity of a wash, which is huge, especially in the summer. If you have an issue with oily hair and you’re working on training your hair to stay clean longer, I absolutely recommend trying Pantene’s new Charcoal Collection, available at Target in mid-July.
How do you care for your hair in the summertime?

I’ve had waist length hair for roughly ten years now and I am a firm believer in washing your hair as little as possible. I only wash mine twice per week. I’ve been using the Hask charcoal shampoo but would love to try Pantene’s version.
