Irish Roadtrip: Dublin to Galway

When I first decided to rent a car in Ireland, I was a little unsure of myself. I mean, they drive on the left side of the road and the driver sits on the right hand side of the car – that’s gotta be confusing, right?! But when I thought about how much I would miss out on if I didn’t explore the countryside on my own, I knew I had to do it. And I’m so incredibly glad I did.
If you’re undecided about your Ireland trip, stop thinking about it and just rent a car. Driving on the country roads and through all the little villages has been my favorite part of this trip so far. The trip from Dublin to Galway was really easy. I made sure to rent from the Dublin airport location so I wouldn’t have to worry about driving in the city for my first time driving on the left. The roads were fine and after a few minutes, I was totally used to it. Just follow the other cars and the signs and you’ll be fine.
Most of the journey was on a highway, which was a great way to get accustomed to driving the rental. At one point I really needed a coffee, so we pulled off of the highway and happened upon the cutest little village. We took these outfit photos in the parking lot. Yes, even the gas station parking lot was cute. Amazing, right?!
I just had to stop and take photos of this church and this cool abandoned farmhouse/cottage thing. In a lot of the places, the roads are very narrow, but there’s always a spot to pull over, which I certainly took advantage of. When we got hungry, we stopped again and had some Thai food (I know). The Thai place was right next to these colorful little homes. Can I just move here now?
Have you ever roadtripped in a foreign country?

This is my next dream trip – I would be nervous to rent a car too, but everyone I know that has gone says it’s by far the best way to see everything! (Plus driving in new countries is always a crazy adventure). The pictures look gorgeous!

LOVE your boots!! And good on you for giving it a go!! I’m planning to visit Dublin next year and really want to hire a car to drive up north to Giant’s Causeway, so this has given me a bit more confidence! Thanks!

Ah, this post makes me wish it was already cooler where I am so I could start wearing boots and wrapping myself up in sweaters. Ireland looks gorgeous, like something out of a fairy tale!!

I feel the same way! I’m back in the south now and it’s in the 90s. Where are you, sweater weather?! And yes, Ireland is totally like a fairy tale!!
