My favorite island we visited in Thailand was Koh Lanta. It was our first stop after flying into Krabi from Chiang Mai. We prepared ourselves for the journey: first was the open air taxi to the airport, then our one hour flight. Next, we took a car to the port where we got on a car ferry. We were excited for this part. We walked up to the top of the ferry to enjoy the views. Turns out it was just a 5 minute ferry ride. Koh Lanta is RIGHT THERE. Like, we could have swam like Leo in The Beach. Oh well.

As soon as we arrived, we knew we would love it. It had island vibes, while keeping with the Thai culture we experienced in Chiang Mai. We went straight to our bungalow at Time for Lime to get settled in. We got the bungalow closest to the restaurant/bar with a huge patio. It was perfect! Time for lime is right on the beach, which is exactly what we wanted after staying in the city for a week.

Time for Lime is a cooking school that has 9 bungalows for people to stay in. They also have an animal shelter that is in a different location. All profits from Time for Lime go to Lanta Animal Welfare, which is why we knew we had to stay there and contribute. The food was delicious and we made so many great friends while we were there. We even ended up hanging out with one of them when we were in Bangkok the next week. I love travel friends. It’s so cool how you can meet someone for such a short time in another country and end up being life long friends. There’s just something about meeting a fellow traveler in a foreign country that creates a special bond.

It’s kind of a toss up between Chiang Mai and Koh Lanta for my favorite place in Thailand. Both places were awesome in their own way. I think it also made a huge difference that we went during the low season, which is always my preference. One of the cool things we did there was go to a jungle party. The nightlife there is so different than it is in the US and I love it! So much more chill.

Have you ever been to Koh Lanta?
