Having curly hair has always been a struggle for me. If you also have curly hair, you definitely know what I mean. You know those girls who can just wake up in the morning and their hair is perfect? That will NEVER happen for someone with curly hair. I look like an possessed lion most mornings. These negatives of having curly hair have been what I focused on for way too long. There are so many benefits of having curly hair; so I decided to stop and listen to all the “you’re so lucky!” comments from my straight-haired friends.
I’ve turned a new leaf and begun to embrace my curls. The process started a few years ago. As I get older, the more and more I love myself (my family would tease me and say that’s a problem and I need to get over myself – haha!). I’ve realized that there are some things that will just never change, so I better learn to love them! Like my height for instance. I am 5’1″. I will NEVER be taller than that. If anything, I’ll probably get shorter as I get into old age, so why on earth would I not embrace that? I’m petite. I can totally get away with using my student ID still and when I’m 40, I will probably still get carded when I buy a bottle of wine.
And it’s the same with my hair. When I actually take the time to do it, I have to admit: it’s beautiful. Natural curls are something that you can’t imitate without the help of a professional. None of my friends are able to achieve the curls I naturally have and being unique is something I strive to be, so I love that aspect of my curls.
Another thing that has helped me #LoveMyCurls is Dove Quench Absolute. I’ve always been a fan of Dove ever since my bestie introduced me to the brand back in college, so when I heard about the #LoveYourCurls campaign, I knew I had to try it. I could not believe how soft and lush my hair felt after just one use of the line (Shampoo, Conditioner, Restoration Mask & Crème Serum). I was in awe! Most people with naturally curly hair also have coarse hair, so this transformation is stunning. To tell you the truth, I’ve been using this shampoo & conditioner even on days when I don’t wear it natural. The softness is too amazing to pass up!
Do you have naturally curly hair? What do you embrace about your natural beauty?

That’s so my line: embrace my curls!!! I think I finally “got it” when I read on naturallycurly.com that curly hair is NOT wash & ready (because, of course that’s what I wanted). I find if you moisturize them and train them, they can be good. jodie

ps. My rationale for not wanting curls still stands thought: Curls are messy and I am organized….it’s a constant struggle!

Yep, it will never be wash & ready, that’s for sure! It definitely takes work, but so does everything else worth having, right?

You have gorgeous hair! I’ve always wished for natural curly hair, I have awkward in between curly and straight just kind of frizzy hair if I don’t style it!

It took me years to finally come to terms with my hair. I used to try to grow it long, put it in headbands, brush it out, etc. I realized what it liked–being short, lots of product, no shampoo or combing–and tried to embrace it. Since then, I’ve loved my hair so much more!

I’m going to chime in and repeat what others have said…you are so lucky! I have straight hair that dries to what I like to call kinks, it looks like I wore 3 erroneously placed hair ties and took them out. I have ALWAYS wanted curly hair. When I was younger, like starting at age 4 I wore foam curlers to bed every night. In the 7th grade I even made my mom try to give me a home perm. It didn’t work. I curl my hair with a Pro Beauty Hollywood Styler almost every day! So jealous of naturally curly girls.

Aw, thank you! We always want what we can’t have, ESPECIALLY when it comes to hair! Curly hair will never be ready to go with no effort put in, which is why I envy those with straight hair, but I’ve definitely come to terms with the facts and I’m learning to embrace my curls! I’m sure your hair is beautiful!

do you mind sharing your routine for when you wear it natural?
Megan
March 30, 2015 @ 6:02 pm
Sure! I just use the Dove products mentioned here and let my hair air dry. I flip my head over and scrunch up my hair with my hands every 30 minutes or so. That’s it! 🙂

Megan your hair is completely gorgeous. My hair is usually an awkward in-between, so it can be a hassle sometimes. I’ve tried quite a few Dove products though, and I’m obsessed with the smoothing cream for taming post-shower frizzies!

As I said on Facebook, I always think of you when I see those Dove commercials. Never thought you’d be doing one yourself! 🙂 Your hair looks fabulous in those pics. I am definitely trying the Dove products, if you think it’s worth it. After all, you MUST get your curls from me! :)))
<3 you!!!

Another huge plus for curly hair – natural volume! My hair dries stick straight, and sometimes I’m grateful for that, but I bet your curls give your roots and body such “oomf” even when you straighten it. What I would GIVE to not have to tease mine! Loving your natural beauty, girl! 🙂

That’s a good point! If you have the right products, what would usually be frizz turns into volume. I do want that sleek straight hair look sometimes though and it’s really hard to achieve for us curly girls! And thank you 🙂

Today I used DoveQuench for first time. My hair is still frizzy- what am I doing wrong? I rinsed the cond out after 5 mins. Then blew dry. I am puzzled & little disappointed. Help anyone??

Dove Quench is for curly hair. I wouldn’t blow it dry. Did you use a diffuser?
