April 11, 2014
This year, I was so excited to attend my very first Lucky FABB (Fashion and Beauty Blogger) Conference in Los Angeles, California. I have watched year after year as bloggers attend this amazing conference, complete with celebrities, industry experts, and high profile bloggers. I have always longed to go and finally decided to take the plunge this year when blogging buddy Lauren of Fashionably Lo agreed to be my partner in crime.
For the day of the conference, my blogging buddies and I used Lyft to get to the SLS hotel, where the conference was being held (use code LUSHLYFT for a $25 credit!). I was so excited to learn more about blogging, network with fellow bloggers and connect with brands. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much of any of that. It was cool to meet a few new bloggers, plus some I already follow, but it felt like most bloggers were already in their set groups and didn’t really break from that. Anyway, here’s what I wore (I loved it!):
{ dress: ℅ Dress Up (sold out), similar // bag: ℅ Olivia + Joy // shoes: ShoeDazzle (sold out), similar // necklace: ℅ Accessory Concierge // custom bracelets: ℅ Tatum Bradley Co. // earrings: ℅ InPink // watch: ℅ Rakani }
As someone who has been blogging for over two years, I didn’t feel that the panel/breakout sessions at Lucky FABB were of benefit to me in that aspect. It was definitely targeted towards newer bloggers. In fact, clients who attended commented that my blog consulting was more beneficial to them than the breakout sessions and panels. As far as connecting with brands goes, I was approached by two brand reps and I am super excited about those potential collaborations, but it was virtually impossible to pick the brand reps out of the crowd. They were just mixed in with the bloggers, so that was difficult.
All in all, I won’t be attending Lucky FABB again unless they create a targeted conference for more advanced bloggers. I’d love to learn more about managing my taxes as a business and working on more advanced brand collaborations like designing jewelry for a brand or creating large scale campaigns. Oh well, I really did have fun with my girls Lauren and Johnnalynn at least! I am also happy that we put together an SBS meet up and a Glam dinner. Luckily, I was able to stay in LA for a full week, so I got a lot out of the trip as a whole. Stay tuned for more of my trip!
Have you ever attended Lucky FABB or another blogger conference? How did you like it?

I’m sorry to hear the conference itself was a disappointment! I’ve never heard those criticisms about the one in New York, but I’ve never been myself. Hopefully the rest of the trip was great though!

I heard from a lot of people that have been to the New York one that the LA one wasn’t as good this year, so that may be what it was. The rest of the trip was great! And honestly, I made the best of the conference even if it wasn’t what I expected! 🙂

I LOVE that dress with the necklace!!!
I also appreciate your honesty in speaking about the conference and what it is geared toward as opposed to what you were looking for. It’s refreshing and informative :).

Thanks! It’s funny because it isn’t what I planned to wear–it was last minute–but it worked out perfectly! I just want people to know the truth. I wish I had read more reviews before I spent so much on the trip!

I really love the honest review of LuckyFABB! It’s really sad to see that some other bloggers were clique-y and didn’t want to branch out, but overall it looks like you had an amazing trip and you worked with a lot of awesome brands for it. Are you planning on going to the SBS conference in July?

I’m thinking about it. Are you going? After spending so much at FABB, I am very cautious about these conferences. I might just do the Coffee Talk, we’ll see. I’m glad you liked the review! I hope it helps someone out 🙂

Thanks for being so open and candid with us about your experience. As somebody new to blogging, I think it would have been beneficial for me to go – which is a little ironic since I didn’t go because I thought it would be targeted towards more experienced bloggers. Oh well! You live and you learn.
What other conferences and blogger events do you have coming up in the future? I’d love to hear all about them too! Also, congrats on hearing from some brands for collaborations. Networking is everything.
I loveeee your dress and sandals by the way! Looking fabulous as always!

No problem! You should give it a try. I think if I had been blogging for a year or less, I would have benefitted a lot more. I might go to the Southern Blog Society event this summer, but I haven’t decided yet. I will definitely write about it if I decide to go! Thank you!! 😀 xo

Loved your opinion on Lucky Fabb. I went last year as well and it was definitely a more beneficial experience last year. And yeah, it definitely felt a little cliquey but glad to meet you now! Love your blog and following on bloglovin 🙂 Talk soon!

Great outfit, Megan! I am obsessed with camel/cognac accessories at the moment… I just love how you paired them with bright white!
Also for all that are reading, Megan’s blog consulting service is AMAZING and has helped me with my blog so, so much. Not only did she advise me on how to improve and grow my blog, but she also created my amazingly beautiful design! Megan is the fairy godmother of blogging 🙂 I cannot recommend her enough! Thank you again!

Great recap! I agree that LuckyFabb or IFBCON should work on developing a conference geared towards advanced bloggers. I haven’t attended a conference in 2 years for the sole reason. That’s a shame that other bloggers weren’t interested in meeting new people, what a waste for them! Atleast you got to soak up some California sun! Love this look, you look fab as usual 🙂

Thanks! I went to IFBCon a couple years ago and got a lot more out of it than I did from LuckyFABB, but I was a brand new blogger then, so that makes sense. Thanks so much! xo

This was my second Fabb, and the New York one was definitely better. I agree that the panels/workshops are sometimes interesting but not that helpful (and I’m a newer blogger, too!). I think there’s a reason most people don’t return after they’ve been to one or two. 🙂
I went to the NYC one alone, and it was definitely hard trying to get to know anyone. I got the feeling that a lot of bloggers wanted to befriend others who have “better stats” and so if you don’t have as many followers they’re not as interested to talk to you. Wish there was a more supportive, collaborative spirit overall.
But hey, I got to meet you! 😉

I’m so glad we got to meet too! I heard that the NYC one was better from a lot of people, but I don’t think it’s worth it for me. I’ll probably be in town during fashion week so maybe I can meet up with some of the girls outside of the conference – that would be the perfect scenario! Thanks for stopping by 🙂 xo
