Mad About Mod

This year’s Spring/Summer runways were filled with tons of trends to take note of next season. There were stripes, dropped waists, crop tops and even 90s grunge references, but my favorite trend (besides stripes, maybe) had to be the 60s mod trend. Ever since I discovered Andy Warhol and Edie Sedgwick, I have been obsessed with mod. The look is an interesting combination of proper wear from the 50s, with an update for the carefree youth of the 60s. Marc Jacobs particularly mastered the comeback for his SS 2013 collection. Not only were a lot of the designs a reference to mod, but the makeup and hair was also a blast from the past. Models donned dark, thick brows and muted lips. Their hair was pulled back and styled in a bouffant.
But Marc wasn’t the only one to embrace 60s mod. Alice + Olivia also did a great job of bringing back fashions from past decades. Here’s my favorite nod to mod from the Alice + Olivia SS 2013 presentation:
Moschino is another line that was full of 60s mod references. From sportswear to glam, Moschino brought the 60s back to life. I had way too many favorites to pick, but here’s one look donned by Miss Lindsey Wixson:
and a more casual look in, you guessed it, stripes:
Fendi also felt inspired by 60s mod and showed several pieces with that ‘factory’ vibe. One of my favorites was an all white number worn by Cara Delvigne:
These are only a few of the lines that presented 60s mod looks for Spring/ Summer 2013. For a full rundown of every show from New York, London and Milan fashion weeks, check out the show notes from fashionista.com. Will you rock the mod look next season? I know I will!
