Lots of girls dream about being a ballerina when they are little; it’s just a natural daydream. Ballerinas embody beauty, femininity and grace–all qualities I still aspire to possess. So now that I’m older, why should I stop dreaming? I know I’ll never be a ballerina, but that doesn’t mean I can’t be inspired by the beautiful flowing skirts and perfectly pulled back hair.

You might recognize the blush pink maxi from my favorite things post a few weeks ago. I love how it flows when I walk; it makes me feel so graceful! I paired it with a simple tee (last seen here) and of course pulled my hair back into a pretty ballerina bun. To add some sparkle, I chose some statement earrings and a minimalist bar bracelet. Instead of ballet flats (seriously, there is such a thing as being too inspired by a look), I went with these d’orsay flats, which have totally been my go to lately.
Surprisingly, a cold front has come through Atlanta, so I added this amazing faux fur coat to keep me warm. The weather had been so nice lately and then all of a sudden it got cold again. Fingers crossed that it warms up again!
Have you ever been inspired by a childhood dream?

Love this look! As a former ballerina, I can honestly say that this look embodies what a ballerina looks like. I used to LIVE with my hair in a bun. LOL! Taking ballet and actually going as far as pointe are some of my most fond memories as a teenager. It’s not easy to reach that level 🙂
March 27, 2014 @ 12:12 pm
Oh, wow I didn’t know you were a ballerina!! I know pointe is some serious stuff – so cool!! I want to see pictures! 🙂

I always wanted to be a princess (especially Ariel). So naturally, I would pretend that I was a mermaid at swim practice when I was younger. And I wore a princess style dress to my junior prom; it was gorgeous!

Love Ariel! I used to watch The Little Mermaid every day <3

This is absolutely gorgeous. I’ve always loved the ballerina aesthetic too, probably due to the fact that I’ve always wanted to do ballet, but never had the chance when I was little. I have to take a ballet basics class next semester for my major, and my inner six year old is ecstatic.
But anyways, I love love love that skirt. I’ve got my eye on a similar one in a boutique back home, I might have to commit next time I’m there. xx, Elizabeth

Your outfit is cute. I still wonder what might have been if I had continued to remain in ballet class. I begged my mom to let me quit. I wish she had ignored my pleas that time. Tulle skirts are so feminine and pretty. I adore them. I have followed you back on Bloglovin. I look forward to reading your posts in the future.

This is a beautiful, flawless look, you really look like an urban ballerina! I have a problem with long skirts in natural colors that I have never found a single one which is not sheer…
April 6, 2014 @ 12:51 pm
Thank you!! This one has a layer under it so it’s not see through. I love it!
April 5, 2014 @ 4:01 pm
Love this look. Ballerinas always feel so ethereal when I watch them. I do dance ballet but I have yet to feel ethereal, haha. I think it’s so much work to look effortless, that you end up not feeling effortless. So obviously, I love flowy clothing to help the mood!

Thank you!! I took ballet lessons when I was a kid, but I wish I stuck with it! I agree – I love how ethereal ballerinas look. I saw The Nutcracker over the holidays and it was amazing!

You styled this look better than anyone I’ve seen! I love the ballerina-y skirts that have been making an appearance lately. I might have to share this post with my roommates the next time they try to convince me not to get a lovely skirt like yours 🙂
