A Modern Take on Retro featuring Taxidermy

Every time Mad Men is in season, I find myself longing for A-line skirts, boat necks and exaggerated eyeliner. So when I saw this green polka dot skirt, I knew it was my chance to pay homage to one of my favorite TV shows by creating a look inspired by the 60s.
Obviously I paired the skirt with a crop top. The crop top & high waisted A-line skirt is everything this season and I’d be silly not to give it a try myself! I amped up the retro vibe by drawing on some black liquid liner and teasing my hair to create a pouffy ponytail.

Finally, for a pop of color and a touch of sophistication, I added my favorite part: the Taxidermy tote. Taxidermy is a new luxury brand that uses hand dyed Python skin and suede to create their unique bags. The brand’s creator, Amy Driggers, has always had a love for exotic leathers and decided to put her passion to work when she discovered the void for classic, but fresh and modern handbags made from exotic leather. She says:
“I started Taxidermy because I wanted to redefine the exotic handbag. I have always loved exotic leathers, the colors and texture just feel special to me. But, I always wanted something that was a little edgier and more current than the typical bags that you see. I wanted to start a brand that makes an exotic leather bag that is ‘not you grandmother’s exotic handbag.'”
Amy is also proud of the fact that each and every Taxidermy bag is unique and special. “Python is a beautiful skin that only gets softer and more beautiful with age. Each piece is unique. No two are alike. So, when you order a Taxidermy bag, you are really getting a one of a kind piece,” she shares.
In addition to the high quality materials and hand made care, Amy also sends off each bag with a hand written thank you note. “I want to tell my clients that I appreciate each order and each wonderful email I get. It’s like Christmas morning whenever someone calls, emails or orders a bag. Because I’ve put my heart and soul into this, I honestly love each bag and want everyone who buys one to love it as much as I do,” Amy says.
After seeing the bag in person, I can attest to the incredible quality and unique beauty of Taxidermy bags. I love the classic design because these bags will last a lifetime, so it’s really a great wardrobe staple to have. I love those pieces that will last years to come, and Taxidermy bags definitely fall into that category!
Do you invest in high quality timeless pieces? What are your thoughts on 60s inspired style?

I am obsessed with Mad Men! I love all the styles from the sixties, especially Betty Draper’s….serious swoon. Polka dots are one of my favorite prints…so retro, fun and optimistic. I’m actually wearing a polka dot cardigan today!! That bag is beautiful. There is nothing like a high end, well constructed bag. Definitely something you will have for years!

I am usually not the biggest fan of crop tops, but the length of the skirt + the height of the neckline makes it look effortless + chic in this ensemble!
May 23, 2014 @ 10:45 pm
Thank you so much! I know what you mean, some crop tops should be left to the teens to wear, but I always like trying my own spin on the styling! ๐

Oh, thank heavens! When I saw Taxidermy in the headline, I though women this season might be sporting stuffed mouse earrings or something. I also love Mad Men, and that green polka dot skirt is indeed timeless. It will add a swaying swath of pretty to any ensemble. Nicely done!

I think ’60s inspired style is fun. And I do love that bag. I think, though, that the bag distracted from the outfit in a way as it kind of took some of the attention off the lovely skirt. I think perhaps if the bag had been a little smaller, it would have been perfect.
May 29, 2014 @ 6:52 pm
I love both pieces, but the bag is so amazing that it would probably distract from anything I’m wearing with it! haha ๐

I really love the skirts, it’s green polka dot. The 60’s style suit you, since it have the full on skirt like that. I love the color of the bag but i wish it little bit smaller compare to your petite frame. But it’s perfect just for that ๐
