If you follow me on Instagram, you probably know I’ve been going through a lot to get my skin where I want it to be. Taking care of your skin can be just as much work as taking care of your body and for me, it’s even harder. I really have to work at it if I want that healthy glow. We all know I love self-care Sunday – it’s a must! And over the years I’ve found what works best for me, including my essential ingredients. But there’s one thing that has transformed my skin more than anything: microneedling.

I first found out about microneedling through the company I got laser hair removal at, WIFH. I love this place because they genuinely care about your happiness and well being. I’ve always felt like they truly tailor everything to my specific needs and work with me to make sure I’m getting the results I’d like. So when Sarah, one of my Medical Estheticians at WIFH, recommended microneedling for my acne scars and hyperpigmentation, I knew I was in for a treat. We decided to go with a package of four sessions, spaced 6-8 weeks apart. Microneedling is a skin procedure that targets large pores, fine lines and wrinkles, loose skin, skin texture, acne scars, stretch marks and more. It can be done on the face, neck, and all over the body. I only did my face, but I could definitely see myself doing it in more places as I get older. So microneedling is basically putting a bunch of little tiny needles into your skin, one small section at a time, and creating little tiny wounds. Your skin then goes into recovery mode producing fresh skin to replace the old, dull skin. It amps up collagen production naturally and you can get things like human growth factor to enhance that process as well as the results. There is a period of 24 hours after where you can’t wear makeup and your face is pink and a little sensitive like you have a sunburn. Not really a huge deal if you ask me! And one million percent worth it!

Since your skin is kind of extra exposed and your pores are open after microneedling, you can also apply products that will soak in better than ever. WIFH gave me an at-home care kit including some stuff like hyaluronic acid and intense moisturizer to help in the “recovery” process. I even ended up getting a bigger bottle of one of the products after because I loved it so much! I also found that in addition to my skin looking better without makeup, it also looked better with makeup. Since my texture improved so much and my spots weren’t as pigmented after the microneedling, my makeup went on much smoother – and I needed less of it. I’ve completely stopped using concealer altogether!

Another thing I did that helped enhance my results was get a facial in between each microneedling session. I got a few hydrafacials and after my last microneedling session I got an oxygen facial. All of them were completely customized to my skin and I felt so clean and refreshed after. Now that I’m done with my microneedling package, I think I’ll still keep up with the facials and maybe get 1-2 microneedling sessions per year just to keep the results as pretty as ever. Next up: botox!
