January 18, 2017

Well, it’s only halfway through January and I haven’t stayed on top of any of my 2017 goals. Please tell me I’m not alone in this. I literally haven’t done yoga or practiced my Spanish once. Oops. I used to be so hard on myself when I didn’t do the things I set out to do, but honestly, life goes on. If it’s not life or death, I find it hard to really care that much.

There are a few things I have done that I didn’t even really plan to. First of all, I’ve almost done sober January. I have had a drink twice (just wine) which has really made a positive impact in general. I used to have a glass of wine quite often – even if I didn’t have any more than that, it still counts as drinking. But I’ve felt so much better since I cut back. The reason I decided to was because I was celebrating something the entire month of December. First was my birthday, then it was my blogger bestie’s birthday, then I went to LA to surprise my sister for her birthday, then it was my grandma’s birthday, then Christmas and finally New Year’s. Way too much drinking, right? This was the first year in my life where I understood why people do sober January. Did I just drink more than usual or am I really getting older? I think it’s a little bit of both. So anyway, I only drank during the national championship game (*tear*) and one other time. I’ve noticed I’m sleeping better, my skin is much more radiant, and I’m more productive overall. I’m counting this as a win for 2017 Megan!

Another change I’ve made that I didn’t set out to is walking. The weather here in Atlanta is insane for January. It has been in the low 70s for a week now. We had those few days of chill fro a cold front but now we’re in straight up spring weather. And I can barely believe it! You can wear a sweater or jacket in the morning or night, but you don’t really need it in the daytime, especially in the sun – so awesome! So since it’s been so nice out, I can’t resist walking everywhere. I live in a very quiet, but very walkable neighborhood in Atlanta so there would be no reason to drive to the coffee shop. Especially with our infamous traffic and horrid lack of parking. I’ve been walking an average of 3 miles per day, which is a lot for someone who works from home (and sometimes my bed. Sorry not sorry). So even though I haven’t completely kept up with my resolutions, I’m still being healthy and productive, which is really all I wanted in the first place!

Have you kept up with your New Year’s resolutions?
