When I was in Maui, the coolest and most special & memorable thing I did was get my spirit painted. Yes, you read that right. Someone painted my spirit! And I have to say, he nailed it.

I first e-met Jonny Tanner, the spirit painter, when he emailed me a few weeks before my Maui trip. His wife follows me on Instagram and saw I was going to Maui. She suggested he reach out to me for a collaboration, and I’m so so beyond glad that he did! I’m a true hippie and free spirit at heart–even though I do love my reliable wifi and luxury goods, ha!–so this was right up my alley. And so perfect for an authentic and unforgettable island experience. This is something I will hold dear for the rest of my life.

How it works is Jonny sits down with you (can be in person or Skype/Facetime) and basically feels your vibes. He asks real and deep questions, but in a very friendly way. I felt extremely comfortable and free to express my true thoughts, feelings, and desires during our session. Lauren and I kept joking that it was like we were in therapy. I felt so warm and fulfilled by the time we were done. Since we got our paintings done together, they totally complemented each other, which was so cool to see. I think this would be so great for a couple to experience together!

Jonny captured my spirit perfectly. I’m getting goosebumps as I type this right now because that’s how incredibly special the entire experience was. If you travel a lot, you know what I’m talking about. There are people you meet and experiences you have that may be very brief, but will stay with you for life. I feel so close to Jonny and his wife after our afternoon together and I will make sure that we meet again.

I will certainly have him paint my spirit in the future, just to see how I’ve changed in a new stage of my life. That’s something I am really looking forward to. If you’re ever in Maui, I can’t recommend Jonny enough. He also mentioned that he’s down to travel, so that’s always an option if you’re really into the idea. Would be super awesome for an event! Jonny also provides a recording of his explanation of the painting and what each part of it means. I loved that because it will be so cool to look back on it and listen to the recording in a few years to compare and reflect. Let me know if you want to listen to mine!
