When it comes to spring hairstyles, is there anything that comes to mind other than a braid? As the weather warms, our happy inner child comes out – braids and all. Personally, braids are my go-to on third day hair. I’m a big advocate of only washing hair once or twice a week. It makes a huge difference in the health of your hair and scalp. For those of you thinking, “yeah right, if only my hair wasn’t a disgusting greaseball after one day.” News flash: it’s greasy because you wash it so much! Your scalp is overcompensating for the lost oils and overproducing. My friends are so sick of my preaching, but seriously: you don’t need to wash your hair more than twice a week!

Anyway, for those days when you’re riding it out, braids are a great go-to. There are so many braid options out there, but this one is a favorite (this one and a fishtail braid, which I plan to make a video tutorial for one day!). It’s so perfect for distracting from roots and making it look like you actually put in some effort. In reality it only takes a few minutes. Here’s how I do it:

Step 1: Put half of your hair up in a clip. It doesn’t have to be perfect. In fact, I prefer it when it has a more careless look!

Step 2: Separate some hair on one side and braid it.

Step 3: Wrap it around the top of your head (like a headband) and tuck the end behind your ear. Pin it with a bobby pin or two.

Step 4: Let down the top half of your hair. You can totally leave it like this if you want!

Step 5: Pull all your hair to one side and secure with an elastic.

Step 6: Get a one inch section of hair and wrap around the ponytail to hide it. Hold it in place in the back with another bobby pin.

This is such a cute and simple look for those days when you don’t know what to do with your hair. Pro tip: If you’re feeling super lazy, just throw on a hat. Works every time!
