In honor of Cinco de Mayo celebrations across the US, I’m excited to share this spicy strawberry jalapeño margarita recipe with an unexpected twist: strawberry jam! I’ve never really been a huge tequila person (blame all those shots in college!), but I have finally been able to get back on the margarita train. Tequila is known as the only spirit that is not a depressant, so it’s attractive in that sense–especially when you’re 30+. A few years ago, I learned how easy margaritas are to make and it’s been one of my go-to’s for gatherings ever since. All you need is tequila, lime, agave, and water.
When I’m not in a traditional margarita mood, I like to switch it up with either a strawberry margarita on the rocks or a spicy jalapeño margarita. But what about combining the two?! I tried it recently and I have to say, I’m hooked! There are a few variations you can make to this recipe depending on how sweet or spicy you want it. Obviously, you can add more jalapeños (and/or cayenne!) for more spice, but if you want to scale back on the sweetness, use just a touch of agave with the strawberry slices in place of the jam.
One thing I really dislike about jalapeño margaritas is all the seeds you suck up when drinking through a straw! So I avoid that in my recipe by not muddling the jalapeño slices. Same goes for the strawberries. There’s nothing worse than a chunk of fruit ruining a margarita! So for my recipe, I add the slices for some flavor without the unpleasant muddling. For the rim garnish, I like to use a mix of salt and cayenne. Not only does it kick up the spice, but it adds some color! So let’s get to it. Here is my Strawberry Jalapeño Margarita recipe!
