Last week, I was lucky enough to visit a small town in Michigan with my best friend. We went up for a friend’s wedding, and spent an amazing weekend off our phones and computers and on the water. The lake is a place where my bestie Meghann has gone every summer for her whole life. It’s a magical place and brings back so many wonderful memories.
When we were in college, I visited the lake with her once. I met her extended lake family and I’ve wanted to go back ever since. It’s such a special place that really reminds me a lot of the magic of travel. When you’re traveling and make friends somewhere across the globe, you have a special connection. Even if you had one night together, you could become lifelong friends. It’s the same way at the lake. Although she only spent a short amount of time there each summer, she grew up with these people and became so close to them during their time together.
It really made me think about my future and I would love to create a similar experience for myself. I would love to have a lake house or a little getaway home. Although I do love traveling, being grounded has its own appeal as well.
Anyway, one day when Meghann was driving to the local mall (aka Dollar General), she drove past this field. We immediately knew we had to go back to take photos. I mean, how stunning is it?! It’s actually the grounds of a little market called the Little Red Shed. They sell fresh fruits, fresh baked goods, locally made honey, and more. We obviously got some goodies during our visit.
I just love how the photos turned out and I can’t wait to visit Michigan again! It’s definitely one of my favorite states now thanks to this trip!

Love the sunflower field! So gorgeous and healthy that it really takes your breath away. I also love that it is on the grounds a place called The Little Red Shed! I bet with that kind of eye catching property, people are drawn in to the shop for their goodies. Talk about great advertising! Now I want to see (and sample) it all in person!

Finding places on the side of the road to shoot are always the best! On my way to Chicago, I always pull off to take pictures with the windmills. Although, Michigan is just so beautiful, so I’m super jealous you! Such a cute look, in the perfect location.
