The Burren & Cliffs of Moher

As far as bit landmarks and tourist attractions in The Republic of Ireland go, The Cliffs of Moher are probably #1. Every person I talked to about Ireland told me I had to go. So of course I did and it was absolutely beautiful. But there were a couple things I wish I had known before I went.
First of all, don’t go on a weekend. It was completely packed out with tourists. There were people everywhere. See all those tiny dots at the top of the cliffs? Yeah, whose are people. It was almost impossible to get a picture without tons of people in the background and it just made the experience feel too touristy. Another thing I wish I knew was that you do not have to pay to go. When I pulled up to the parking lot to park, I was told it was 6 euros per person and I would have to show tickets in order to enter. I asked if I could park somewhere else and the guy told me it would be a 30 minute walk to the cliffs. Since it was raining, I just went with it. I totally should have just parked on the side of the road. There was no one looking at ticket. We totally got scammed!
After the crowds at the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren was a much needed change of pace. We pulled up to a parking lot and parked. After a short walk, we saw that there were cars parked closer, so we decided to try our luck. We ended up just driving through the whole park. It was perfect! We stopped a few times to take it all in–and to take photos of course. The stone seemed to go on forever and it was incredibly peaceful. It was the perfect stop to end the day. We might have made one more stop at the pub on the way home, but we were in Ireland, after all.
What are your favorite tourist spots?

My favorite touristy spot would have to be the Cinque Terre in Italy. The views you get while walking along the coast are incredible. Something I found to not be worth the hype was the Leaning Tower of Pisa. They try to get you to pay 18 euro to go to the top! That was an easy pass for us. We just snapped our pics of the tower, popped inside the church and baptistery next door, and left.

Oooh I would love to visit the Cinque Terre! I’ve only been to southern Italy. I did the Amalfi Coast, Naples, Capri, etc. I love Italy and definitely need to go back to visit the northern parts of the country! Definitely agree with you on the Leaning Tower of Pisa. No thanks on that! Snap the touristy photos and keep moving!

I’ve heard so many good things about this place. The photos you’ve taken are absolutely stunning. Any photos I see of the cliffs I am nearly packing my bags haha. That’s nuts there were that many people there. Once you pointed them out I could totally see them in the photos. Shitty you got scammed. I would definitely be weary if someone asked me to pay like that. To my knowledge that’s public land, right? Seems weird to pay to walk over some cliffs. Anywho, lovely write up and great photos!

It’s actually super touristy with tons of shops, restaurants, information stands etc. so it’s not really very public feeling. But I could have totally gone without that. I just wanted to check out the view. That definitely put a damper on the whole experience though. Wish it didn’t happen! I just didn’t see where else I could have parked. ๐
