Never the bride, always the… guest.
‘Tis the season of weddings! Being only 21 years old, I don’t exactly have the constant flow of wedding invites, but the thought of having an excuse to dress up for a night of dancing, champagne and celebrations practically makes me giddy. And, let’s be honest, the wedding section of Pinterest certainly doesn’t help!
Now, dressing the part of the elegant, classy guest can be tricky and you never, ever want to upstage the bride. This is one of the few times you can forget about all this summer’s trends and fully embrace elegance and subtlety.
DO:
Stick to pastels and neutrals for not only your dress, but also your hair and makeup. Luckily, neutrals are huge right now so you shouldn’t have a problem finding the perfect dress. Apply simple makeup; nothing too harsh or heavy and opt for a simple curl for your hair or even a neat ponytail. Use your accessories to make a statement – like a bright clutch or a chunky necklace – or keep it classic with a string of pearls.
DON’T:
Wear white. Never, ever, ever, ever wear a white dress. Or a long dress. That day belongs to one lucky girl and she should be the only one in white or a gown. Also, if you know the color scheme, try to steer away from the color of the bridesmaids’ dresses. Even if you love the neon trend this spring and summer, don’t incorporate it in your wedding attire. Bright colors will draw eyes to you instead of the blushing bride. Make sure you choose a dress on the more conservative side – this is a family affair, after all.
If you find the perfect dress, don’t be afraid to wear it to multiple weddings. Chances are there will be different people there and you can always change your accessories or shoes to spice up your look.
