Wow! Has this been a whirlwind month, or what. Luckily, with all the craziness that my life has brought me since I graduated college, came along some great Lush to Blush inspiration!
I’ve started my very first post-college full-time job about a month ago and that’s what I want to write about first. You may think I am going to give you some advice, wisdom even, about how I landed a job right out of college, or how I shook off my first day nerves. Instead, I’m going to answer any girl’s biggest and most terrifying career question: “What do I wear on my first day?!”
1. Follow Your Interviewer’s Footsteps. If you are unsure about how to dress on your first day, go by what your interviewers wore during your interview process. If they were in suits, you know it is a dressier office as opposed to a more casual setting. When in doubt, dress up.
2. Go Conservative. Until you feel out your new office space, dress on the conservative side. This includes closed-toed shoes, low heels and looser clothing. Also, be willing to splurge on your business attire. It is worth the extra cash to have quality pieces that will last and still look great.
3. Dress for the job you want, not the job you have. My mom has been telling me this ever since I started working (ice cream and coffee shops included!). Just because you are an assistant somewhere, or even an intern, doesn’t mean you can’t dress like you are the CEO of the company (or at least dress like you make as much as the CEO!). You never know who you could be networking with!
If you’re still scrambling the night before your big first day, trust the basics: a black pencil skirt, white collared shirt, cardigan and classic pumps.
What advice would you give first time career women?
