Why Getting Laser was the Best Decision I’ve Ever Made

I think we can all agree that shaving sucks. But it’s a necessary evil, especially during summer. Or is it? For ages, women have been searching for alternatives to shaving and ladies, I’ve found the clear winner: laser hair removal. Laser hair removal is something I’ve thought about for a long time, but I always thought it took too long, hurt too bad and cost too much. But the truth is, I was so wrong.
Last year, WIFH contacted me to work with them. Working with bloggers was new to them, so we met to discuss some options and ideas. I told them about my dream of getting laser hair removal and I figured since I was already going to be there, I might as well get a tattoo removal too. I have a tiny ladybug in my wrist that I love, but it’s gotten so faded that it just looks like a black dot. A huge black dot. Anyway, there were tons of options for services they offer, from miradry (for sweating) to botox to cullulaze and smartlipo, they do it all! To tell you the truth, I am a little interested in botox (preventative!) and definitely at least some microdermabrasion and a chemical peel. And maybe some skin resurfacing…

But back to the laser. When I went in for my first appointment, the Laser Practitioner took the time to explain to me how the laser actually works. What happens is the laser goes in and destroys the hair follicle. Since there are so many follicles, some of them are not completely destroyed, but they are at least damaged so the hair that grows out of those damaged follicles is very thin and light. I’ve only had 6 sessions and I shave my armpits maybe once every couple weeks. I noticed a reduction in hair growth after every single session. It’s awesome to see results right away! Totally did not expect that.
As for the pain, it is a little painful, but totally bearable. I am getting a full brazilian, so I did get prescribed a numbing gel to put on before I go in for my sessions. I do not use it for my armpits; I don’t need it there. It doesn’t hurt badly on my underarms and plus it takes maybe 2 minutes per pit. I’ve also noticed that each session hurts less and less. I’ll need 8-10 total and the appointments are set 6 to 8 weeks apart. One thing to note is the darker your skin, the lower the setting on the laser, which means it’s less powerful. During the summer, I might skip a session if I’m too tan, but we can pick right back up at the next appointment.
I can’t rave enough about my results from laser hair removal, but what’s even better is the service and friendliness of everyone on staff at WIFH. I look forward to my appointments not only because I’m that much closer to being hairless, but also because the laser practitioners are so freaking nice that I just feel like a princess when I’m there. They are so great at putting me at ease and chatting about everyday life. It’s like that hair/nail salon appointment where you get to pamper yourself and have some girl talk time.
If you’re in the Atlanta area, I can’t recommend WIFH enough. I have a feeling I’ll be a regular for years to come, especially with the great specials they offer!
Have you ever tried laser hair removal?

Hey Megan, this looks like a really interesting post and I too have been considering getting a laser done. Waxing is something I resort too but I would prefer something permanent rather than those frequent trips to the salon!

Love Love Love WIFH. Had LHR a couple years ago, full leg, underarms and bikini area. Cannot be any happier with the result. 🙂

I’m currently taking sessions for my underarms! Last month I just had my 10th session . My first 3 sessions were set 2 weeks apart and my fourth until the next series of sessions is once a month. I asked the staff if there’s a chance that I will never go back to their clinic again considering that maybe after how many sessions, hair won’t ever grow back. But she said, it’s impossible because we have growth hormones. Hair will continue to grow but not as much and as thick anymore. I’m actually really glad I decided to have laser hair removal because the hair in my underarms are really really thin you can barely see it! My next goal is underarm whitening though since a part of my underarm is dark because I used to shave back then 😀
